Raila Instructed Us to Block Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 Presidential Bid, Joho Says
Leaders drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have revealed that they are under instructions of their party leader Raila Odinga to block Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Led by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, the leaders have vowed to ensure Ruto doesn't succeed President Kenyatta in 2022.
“If Raila says we go right we shall all go right and if he says we go left we have all to go left. He (Raila) has told us to support Uhuru and oppose Ruto’s presidential bid that is exactly what we are doing,” Joho says as quoted by the Standard.
Speaking in Butala, Busia County on Saturday, Joho says that the fact that Ruto has been implicated in numerous corruption scandal makes him unfit to be Kenya's next President.
“I am extremely against the presidential bid of Ruto, this country cannot be led by someone like Ruto because of his bad integrity,” says Joho.
The ODM deputy leader also says the party supports President Kenyatta’s recent cabinet shake-up that gives Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i powers to supervise all government development programs including the big four agenda.
Joho notes that this will stop Ruto's countrywide trips in the name of launching and inspecting projects on behalf of the President.
“I am ready to welcome Matiang’i whenever he comes to Mombasa to oversee projects because he is not interested in politics but advancing development agenda of the Uhuru’s government,” says Joho.
