I’ll Fight for Jubilee Party Presidential Ticket, Deputy President William Ruto Says

Deputy President William Ruto says he's ready to concede defeat to whoever beats him to Jubilee Party ticket in 2022.

Ruto says the ruling party is founded on democracy and will rally behind the candidate who beats him in the 2022 Jubilee presidential nominations.

“We will all compete for different positions in the nominations. Those of us who will be defeated should concede and support the winners,” Ruto says.

Speaking on Wednesday at his rural home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County where he hosted a delegation of leaders from Bomet and Vihiga Counties, Ruto has further asked those who are defeated in the primaries to also accept defeat.

"In a democracy, there will always be winners and losers in a fairly-held contest," Ruto notes.

“We want to compete on ideas, agenda, and programmes that would make the lives of Kenyans better. We are past the petty party and ethnic-based politics,” he adds.

Ruto also says the party will not give direct tickets to candidates and those seeking different positions must fight for them.

“There will be no automatic tickets in Jubilee. There will be serious contests informed by candidates’ track record. You cannot wait for an endorsement from a political party that you do not belong to. Jubilee will have a candidate for every position in Kenya. “

“I am also not waiting for a direct ticket. I will compete with other presidential candidates in Jubilee," remarks Ruto.
