Investigate Deputy President William Ruto over Maize Scam, Jubilee MPs Demand

John Wanjohi Nov 18, 2018

A section of Jubilee Members of Parliament have dragged Deputy President William Ruto's name into a maize and fertilizer scam at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Led by Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Joshua Kutuny (Cheranganyi) and Sila Tiren (Moiben), the MPs want the Deputy President investigated over the matter. The leaders claim Ruto is directly connected to cartels at the NCPB.

“What we know is that these problems are because of the DP and his office,” says Keter.

They also accuse the Deputy President of ignoring the plight of maize farmers especially those from the Rift Valley despite holding a powerful position.

“We want the DP probed because we have heard that he has been calling NCPB officials instructing them on who should be paid,” Kutuny demands.

The three also say Ruto is misleading farmers by telling them to grow alternative crops such as avocados while he is at the same time planning to put up a 500,000-acre maize plantation in Congo Brazzaville.

“Ruto and his team should first tell Kenyans to stop eating ugali and then ask farmers to stop growing maize,” says Tiren.

“We want to tell the DP that we know cartels frustrating farmers are directly linked to him and his office and that is why we want all leaders probed. We are also ready as MPs to be probed,” says MP Keter.

They want Ruto to suspend his 2022 presidential campaign and focus on solving problems facing Kenyans. “Why should we talk about 2022 when our people are suffering due to unsettled dues for produce they delivered to NCPB?”
