ODM Leaders Propose Peter Kenneth as Raila's 2022 Running Mate
A section of leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have proposed former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth as the running to Opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2022.
The leaders say Odinga and Kenneth would form a perfect partnership to take over the country's leadership from President Kenyatta in the next elections.
On Saturday, Kenneth attended a fundraiser organized by Raila’s loyalist MP Caleb Amisi of Saboti, where leaders called on him to join forces with Odinga ahead of 2022 polls.
“We are asking our brother Kenneth to team up with our party leader Raila Odinga in the succession bid. It is a winning formula,” Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala says.
“We know you are committed like Raila to salvage Kenyans from poverty. Team up with him in the 2022 succession quest and you never know what is on the way for you,” says Mathare MP Anthony Olouch.
“Baba (Raila) is strong and energetic and ready to serve Kenyans in the presidency. He is not old and I pity those calling on him to quit politics."
MP Amisi says Kenneth's track record speaks for itself and hence the need to form a formidable team with Odinga.
“Kenneth is the right person to work with Raila. You have in the past demonstrated capability to transform the economy and we want you to be part of Raila’s government in 2022,” Amisi notes.
Other leaders who accompanied Kenneth to the function where he was the chief guest include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Samuel Atandi of Alego Usonga and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
“Time has come for Kenyans to go for a reform minded leader and Raila is the best bet and we are asking our brother Kenneth to join Raila,” says MP Atandi.
“We don’t want our country to be auctioned by greedy individuals. We must ensure that only trusted leaders are in power,” says MP Babu Owino.
