Woman Masquerading as Office of the President Employee Arrested for Conning Kenyans Out of Millions
Police in Nairobi have arrested a woman who allegedly conned Kenyans of millions of shillings while posing as an employee in the Office of the President.
The suspect, identified as Grace Mwarania Waigumu, is said to have defrauded unsuspecting Kenyans after claiming that she had won tenders for supply of campaign materials to the Jubilee Party.
She would then ask victims for huge amounts of cash with promise of refunding with an interest on top. Police said Ms Waigumu conned Abdiwahab Adan Ibrahim of Sh23.9 million and an additional Sh1.9 million from Brian Manyara Ngumi.
She also took Sh1 million from John Kiama Mbugua out of Sh1 million for alleged purchase of campaign t-shirts, bags, caps and wristbands.
The suspect also claimed she had secured another lucrative contract to supply mattresses and foodstuff to the needy but after receiving cash, she would go missing for sometime before resurfacing to con more victims.
“She has been trailed and arrested and is now being interrogated. It was established that she is an impostor,” Parklands DCIO David Chebii said.
She is also accused of conning an engineer of Sh10 million and another Sh800,000 from a woman. Her bank accounts have been frozen while police have also placed a caveat on her property and seized a Land Cruiser that she was driving.
“We are appealing to anyone who might have been conned to by the woman to come out and make a formal complaint,” added Chebii.
