10 Most Educated MPs in Kenya's 12th Parliament Revealed

Education qualifications for the 349 MPs in the 12th parliament have been revealed in Curriculum Vitae (CVs) published by Parliament on its website.

The information published by the August House on Tuesday shows that two thirds of MPs have at least a bacheloer's degree, while a third (116 MPs) either hold a diploma or certificate.

Interestingly, a significant number of MPs bypassed a diploma to enroll for undergraduate courses in foreign universities with questionable reputations.

10 MPs are PhD holders. A number of others with bachelor's degreea are currently pursuing Master's degrees.

Prof Zadoc Ogutu (Bomachoge Boragu), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Korei ole Lemein (Narok South) Wilson Kipngetich (Chesumei), Makau Mulu (Kitui Central), Lilian Gogo (Rangwe ) and Mutunga Kanyutha (Tigania West) hold PhD degrees.

Others include Women Representatives Christine Ombaka (Siaya), Tecla Tum (Nandi) and Pamela Ochieng’(Migori).

MPs who hold certificates include Ruiru MP Kingara Ngang’a, Ibrahim Sahal (nominated) and Kajiado Woman Representative Teyia Janet.

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Jane Wanjuki (Embu), Alfa Miruka (Bomachoge Chache) and Geoffrey Omuse (Teso South) are some of the legislators who hold diplomas.

Last year, Members of the National Assembly voted to provide for a transitional clause in the Elections Act to make it mandatory for those seeking Parliamentary positions in 2022 elections to have degrees.
