Thika Businessman Counting Losses as 13 Buses Are Torched in Suspected Arson
A businessman is counting losses running into millions of shillings after 13 of his buses were set on fire in Thika town in suspected arson attack on Saturday night.
The buses operating under Chania Special Travellers sacco had been parked at a garage along Kenyatta Road estate, Juja when the incident happened.
A caretaker at the facility said he heard a huge explosion before the fire broke out in the garage, razing down the buses.
“I was awoken by a huge explosion and when I came out of the house all the buses were on fire. It was so huge I could not put it off on my own,” said the caretaker.
Joseph Kamau, the owner of the garage said there were indications that it was arson and not an accident.
“I was alerted by the caretaker and I called the firefighters from Kiambu but unfortunately all buses had burnt. These buses were burnt by someone with a certain intention,” said Mr. Kamau.
Police have commenced investigations to ascertain the cause of the inferno that reduced a multi-million shilling enterprise to ashes.
