President Kenyatta to Fire Four Cabinet Secretaries in Imminent Gov't Reshuffle

John Wanjohi Jul 27, 2018

President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly set to fire at least four Cabinet Secretaries in a looming reshuffle of Cabinet as part of the ongoing crackdown on corruption.

The changes also aim at aligning the Cabinet to his Big Four priority areas namely; universal healthcare, food security, manufacturing and affordable housing, reports The Standard.

The paper says the ministers to be shown the exit door are ones whose dockets have been dogged by cases of corruption. One of the CSs to be sacked allegedly contemplated resigning recently after his ministry was adversely mentioned in several graft cases.

“The President might change his Cabinet anytime. He is determined to deliver on the pledges he made to Kenyans during his campaigns last year,” disclosed a close confidant of the President.

“There are CSs who might not survive the onslaught. Those who were left out in the mini-Cabinet last year might be affected.”

“The President gave them a second chance. However, not much has happened to help him in his reform agenda and now hard decisions must be made,” said another ally of the President.

The source said President Kenyatta has been a different person since he took oath for his second and final term and is keen to leave behind a legacy after he retires.

“He is busy building bridges. After his second-term election, he has made a complete change in his operations. Very few close confidants are consulted before he makes major announcements. The first Cabinet was his own decision; it will not be surprising if he pulls a surprise among his circles,” said another leader.

In a meeting with PSs, CEOs and chairpersons of boards of all state corporations last week, President Uhuru said he will be quick to crack the whip on any officials implicated in corruption.
