I'll Be On the Ballot for 2022 Presidential Elections, Kalonzo Declares

John Wanjohi Jun 20, 2018

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared he will be on the ballot for 2022 presidential race.

Speaking during the unveiling of new Wiper party headquarters in Nairobi, Kalonzo said he will not agree to back any other candidate for the country's top seat.

The party leadership vowed to rally behind Musyoka and traverse all corners of the country to sell his candidature.

Wiper chairman and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana said the party was concerned with Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) announcement that it will field a presidential candidate in the next elections.

“We want to know if the remarks made by Joho were on behalf of the ODM party. If his remarks represent the party’s stand, then ODM has contravened an agreement made in 2017 where the party was not supposed to present a presidential candidate in 2022,” Kibwana said.

Kalonzo also declared support for President Kenyatta’s order for a lifestyle on all public officers in the war against graft and urged Parliament to create a legal framework to facilitate the wealth scrutiny.

“We support calls for an immediate lifestyle audit of all top public and State officers. To actualise this, we propose the establishment of a legal framework to guide the process of the lifestyle audit to ensure no one escapes scrutiny. Once this framework is in place, international audit firms should be involved to work closely with local agencies,” he said.

“While we support the ongoing fight against corruption in public offices, we call on investigating agencies to expand the dragnet to cover private sector actors involved in the complex web of corruption in Kenya,” he said.
