Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Threatens to Name Top Politicians Involved in Multi-Billion Shilling Maize Scandal

John Wanjohi Jun 09, 2018

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has threatened to disclose the identities of top politicians involved in the alleged multi-billion maize scandal at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Mutua, who spoke during a tree planting exercise in Kalama, Machakos on Saturday praised President Kenyatta over his recent efforts in the fight against graft.

The Governor, however, challenged the Head of State to go for top officers in his administration implicated in different scandals.

"We know corruption cartels in the country are determined to fight back through thick and thin but they must know their time to siphon public funds through dubious deals is over," Mutua said.

"My call for audit of lifestyle of public officials to determine their suitability to serve has obviously rubbed some well-known lords of corruption the wrong way. However, I will maintain my firm stance against entrenchment of corruption in the country," he added.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader also took the chance to express dissatisfaction in the Friday Appeals Court ruling that nullified his election as Machakos Governor. Mutua said he read political witch hunt from the ruling and vowed to challenge it as the Supreme Court.

In its ruling, the Appellate Court declared that Mutua was not duly and directed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct fresh elections within two months.
