Raila Meets Retired President Mwai Kibaki in Nairobi

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Friday held a meeting with retired President Mwai Kibaki in Muthaiga, Nairobi.

Details of the meeting between the two former coalition government partners remain scanty, but sources said last month handshake between Odinga and President Kenyatta was one of the agendas.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader was flanked by his legal adviser, lawyer Paul Mwangi. Mwangi is the co-chair of the team spearheading the unity initiative between Odinga and Kenyatta.

“Raila is going to meet the retired president,” Mr Mwangi told the Nation without giving further details.

A source told the Nation that Odinga would brief the retired Head of State on the progress of his unity pact with President Kenyatta.

“It is about the handshake, a lot is going on and he wants to brief Mzee Kibaki as much,” said a source close to the opposition leader.

Last week, Raila held similar talks with former President Daniel arap Moi at his rural home in Kabarak, Nakuru County. 

On Friday morning, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko paid Raila a courtesy call at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.  Sonko hailed Odinga and President Kenyatta for burying the hatched and threw his weight behind the unity initiative dubbed "Building Bridges to a New Kenyan Nation."

 “A time comes when you just need to put your feet down, identify a company and award tenders so that the work can start,” Odinga told Sonko during the meeting.
