Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Calls for Re-introduction of Prime Minister Post
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has called for the reinstatement of the Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministers positions.
Mutua further said that the Constitution should be amended to pave way for presidential candidates to run for other seats. This, he said, will provide them with something to fall back to in case they fail to win the country's top seat.
“Kenyan politics is do-or-die, because when a leader fails to clinch a seat they become irrelevant. Let us expand our constitution, let us create more positions like Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and many others to accommodate various leaders so that it does not become do or die, ” said Mutua, who spoke in Kakamega while accompanied by his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya.
He said Kenya should borrow practices from countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, where “if you go for presidency and miss, you’re still in the government.”
“We therefore want that one can run for presidency and Senator at the same time, so that if you miss one you continue with the other,” he said.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader spoke during the first day of his bench-marking tour of Kakamega County. Mutua and Governor Oparanya pledged to partner in developing their respective counties.
