You've No Equal Shares in NASA With Raila, ODM Party Tells Kalonzo, Mudavadi, Wetang'ula

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party now says that it has more shares in opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition than the rest of the alliance's affiliate parties.

Speaking at Orange House in Nairobi on Wednesday, newly appointed Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that ODM will not need to seek support of other Nasa affiliate parties to push for the coalition's course for electoral justice.

Other Nasa affiliate parties include; Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper, Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya of Moses Wetang'ula. Sifuna, who was named the party's new secretary-general on Friday, said the party will no longer allow its partners in Nasa to take credit of ODM's struggles, dismissing claims they have equal shares in the coalition.

"ODM will no longer apologise for being the  biggest party, and having the biggest number of elected leaders,” Sifuna said when he took over from Dr Agnes Zani, who has been in the office in an acting capacity.

“We will no longer be forced to walk on our knees so that our short friends can feel better about themselves.  We will also not discuss 2022 politics until we've finished issues of electoral justice in 2017 elections."

The Raila Odinga-led party further told its partners to back its quest to fight Jubilee government's "dictatorship" or leave. "If fighting dictatorship is not in your genetic make-up, then leave this to us whose one and only role is to uproot the dictatorship, and enforce electoral justice," said Mr Sifuna.

At ODM National Delegates Meeting last Friday, Odinga was categorical that the party was ready to go alone if pushed. "ODM leaders and supporters must without fear or apologies erect and fly the flag of justice, fairness and equity as only ODM can," Raila said.

“We must be prepared to fight alongside other like-minded parties and individual. But we must also be prepared to fight alone should it come to that,” he stated.
