Joho-Kalonzo Friday Bitter Exchange Fuels Fresh Infighting Within NASA

John Wanjohi Feb 25, 2018

Friday's exchange between Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has sparked fresh infighting within National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition.

Wiper leaders led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua have demanded an apology from Joho for what they termed as disrespecting Nasa co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

“It’s not like we are in Nasa because there are no options, the options are as many as there are elected leaders,” the senator said.

Speaking at a funeral ceremony in Kitui on Saturday, Wambua said Wiper has an equal stake within Nasa and should be treated as such.

“We can’t have a situation where members of parliament, governors and even MCAs have the audacity to insult principals within the coalition,” said Wambua.

Joho and Kalonzo were involved in an exchange during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party National Governing Council meeting on Friday.

Joho, who is the ODM deputy party leader, alluded that Kalonzo was a coward for skipping Raila Odinga’s mock swearing in ceremony held at Uhuru Park on January 30th.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Kalonzo warned Joho saying: We're talking serious business here, serious business. The same friendly fire also kills. If you shout at the loudest of your voice that 'Kalonzo is a coward!'... what are you trying to do. You're shooting yourself."

He added:"Don't try to create divisions. Don't try because if you do that, you're creating internal damage."
