NASA to Push for Introduction of Rotational Presidency, Prime Minister Position

John Wanjohi Feb 18, 2018

Opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) is set to hold a convention before February 28th to deliberate and approve a raft of radical proposals aimed at changing the country's leadership.

Among proposals made by the coalition's People’s Assembly Organising Committee include pushing for introduction of rotational presidency and reinstatement of the prime minister position.

The idea of a rotational presidency is meant to bar Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions, which have occupied the presidency since independence from taking the top seat in the near future and allow other communities to have a taste of leadership, thus enhancing national cohesion.

Also to be discussed in the inaugural convention that will bring together People's Assembly representatives and install Raila Odinga as the People's President is the idea of self-determination.

Speaking on Saturday during the funeral of Lenno Mbaga Mwambura at Bodoi in Kikambala, Kilifi County, Nasa co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said the coalition will continue to push for electoral reforms.

“There is no turning back. We must make sure that not again will elections be stolen and people ruled by force. Our coalition is determined to slay the dragon of electoral injustice," said Kalonzo.

The People's Assembly Organising Committee is chaired by strategist David Ndii, other members include; Judy Sijeny, Hamida Kibwana, Mutakha Kangu, Oduor Ong’wen, Koitamet Olekina and Peter Mathuki.

“The Constitution leaves citizens free to decide how to exercise sovereignty directly. Our answer to this is the People’s Assembly,” Ndii said.

“The convention will inaugurate the national leadership that will support the People’s President in this most solemn of national duties. We may not necessarily want to call it a Cabinet, but they will be individuals that will guide the running of the assembly,” Dr Ndii added.
