Wiper Party to Hold Meeting to Discuss Kalonzo's Future in NASA

Wiper party is set to hold a crisis meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the future of Kalonzo Musyoka in the National Super Alliance (Nasa).

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr, who doubles up as Wiper Vice Chairman, said among agenda to be discussed in the meeting will be the ‘swearing-in’ of opposition leader Raila Odinga and ramifications of Kalonzo's absence at the ceremony.

Mutula said the party will issue an official statement after the meeting.

“We have a meeting on Tuesday. I am afraid you will have to wait for the leadership to issue a statement,” he said.

The meeting comes days after Kalonzo skipped the swearing in, and although he explained the reason, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders saw it as a betrayal to the coalition.

ODM chairman John Mbadi in a statement appeared to brand Kalonzo as a coward.

“There is no cure for a coward. A coward is just a coward, and those who were brave enough made it to Uhuru Park on Tuesday,” Mbadi stated.

Also missing in the inauguration ceremony were Nasa principals Moses Wetang'ula and Musalia Mudavadi.

Kalonzo alleged that, together with Wetang'ula and Musalia, they had been placed under house arrest by police during the ceremony.

Speaking during an interview with a local FM station on Thursday, Wiper Chairman Kivutha Kibwana said ODM organized the swearing in without involving other Nasa affiliate parties.

“ODM has not been fair. Even our representatives in the plans were kept in the dark most of the time. We are part of the NASA coalition but most of the time we were not briefed on meetings and progress.”

“Yes, there are issues that need to be looked into but I want to assume that the Kamba nation and NASA are intact. All we ask for is respect from our other partner (ODM),” he added.
