"Serial Eyewitness" Dennis Ngengi Handed Prison Sentence

John Wanjohi Feb 04, 2018

Dennis Muigai Ngengi, the mysterious man who claimed to have witnessed two-high profile accidents in 2017 has been sentenced to one-and-half years in prison for impersonating a military officer.

Appearing before Kwale Resident Magistrate Patrick Wambugu, Muigai pleaded guilty to charges of impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces officer in Ukunda, Kwale County in 2015 and was handed the sentenced with no option of fine.

In November last year, Muigai hit headlines after appearing at the scene of the road crash that claimed former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru's life.

He alleged to have witnessed how the accident happened as he was trailing the Governor's vehicle a few metres behind.

Two weeks earlier, he was also spotted at the scene of the Lake Nakuru helicopter crash, where five people died.

It would later emerge that Muigai was in police wanted list and had more than eight other pending cases ranging from stealing, malicious damage, obtaining money in false pretense and impersonation, all recorded in different police stations across the country.

The officer in charge of criminal registry, Patrick Ndunda, said all the more than eight cases against him had no result of trial and had identified himself using different names.
