Babu Owino: Why I think US President Trump was Right on "Shithole" Remarks

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, well known as Babu Owino thinks that US President Donald Trump was right by referring African nations as "shithole" countries.

During a meeting with lawmakers at White House last week, Trump is reported to have demanded to know why the US should admit immigrants from "shithole" countries, in reference to African nations, Haiti and El Salvador.

His remarks have received criticism by people from different parts of the world, with many accusing him of being a racist. 54 African countries have since demanded he retracts and apologize for the sentiments.

However, Trump defended himself insisting: “I am not a racist.”

Reacting to rise in prices of various commodities in the country over the past one week, Babu Owino thinks that Trump was right to call African countries "Shithole": “Stima imepanda, unga imepanda, mafuta taa imepanda na petrol imepanda. For a moment I think Trump was right,” Babu wrote on his social media page.

His sentiments comes after Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday announced increase in fuel prices, with super petrol now retailing at Sh106.30 in Nairobi after a Sh2.13 increase, diesel goes up by Sh2.39 and kerosene also goes up by Sh3.36.

The price of 2kg packet of maize flour has also increased from Sh90 to Sh120 following the end of a government subsidy.
