Eight National Super Alliance (Nasa) Members of Parliament have thrown their weight behind Uhuru Kenyatta's Presidency.

The MPs, mainly drawn from Kisii and Nyamira Counties said they recognise Kenyatta as President of the republic of Kenya. This is despite Nasa coalition led by its leader Raila Odinga declaring not to recognise him as President, saying he was not legitimately elected.

The leaders further distanced themselves from the planned inauguration of Odinga as the “‘People’s President”, slated for January 30th.

Addressing the media at Parliament buildings on Tuesday, the MPs said they are opposed to the planned swearing in of Odinga, even though there were unresolved issues surrounding the last presidential election.

The MPs included Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (West Mugirango),Zadock Ogutu (Bomachoge Borabu), Alfa Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South), Samuel Arama (Nakuru West) and Innocent Obiri (Bobasi).

“At this time, our President is Uhuru Kenyatta. That is what the people back in my constituency know but that doesn’t mean that there are no issues to be talked about,” said Mr Onyonka who spoke on behalf of the MPs.

They thanked President Uhutu for retaining Dr Fred Matiang’i in the Cabinet, terming it an honour to the Kisii community.

“We the Kisii people, are very proud of Matiang’i’s outstanding dedication to duty and unwavering commitment to serve the nation,” they said.
