President Uhuru Fires 13 Cabinet Secretaries, Retains 6
President Kenyatta on Friday revealed the team he will be working with in his second term in office.
Addressing the nation at State House in Nairobi, the president said, "Today I would want to name a few of those who will be working with me." Six Cabinet Secretaries serving in his first term in office have survived the axe, while thirteen of them have been shown the door.
Those who have been retained include Henry Rotich (Treasury), Najib Balala (Tourism), James Macharia (Transport and Infrastructure), Fred Matiang'i (Education), Charles Keter (Energy) and Joseph Mucheru (ICT).
Joseph Kinyua remains the Head of Civil Service, deputized by Wanyama Musiambo, Nzioka Waita has been named as Chief of Staff, while former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua is the new State House Comptroller.
Former Jubilee Turkana senate aspirant John Munyes, former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani and Keriako Tobiko, who resigned as Director of Public Prosecutions on Friday are some of the names President Kenyatta has forwarded to Parliament for vetting to be appointed to Cabinet.
"Over the next few weeks, I will be making further announcements to fill cabinet and principals secretary positions as well as our SAGAs (Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies) and Commissions as we continue to populate the government with those who will be charged with the responsibility of executing our agenda in the next five years," the President stated.
