Raila Condemns Arrest of Opposition Leaders
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has condemned the arrest of leaders allied to the opposition, terming it as perpetual 'intimidation' targeting one side of the political divide.
This comes after Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang =, his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino and former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo were apprehended by the police on Thursday in Nairobi under unclear circumstances.
In a statement through his spokesman Dennis Onyango, Raila threatened to take unspecified actions against the government over the arrests.
"It has come to my attention that the government has again arrested MPs without clear reason. I demand that they are released immediately," read the statement.
He added: "These are clear signs that Jubilee regime is panicking. Kenya is not a banana republic and I demand respect to my supporters."
Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, Siaya senator James Orengo said that NASA will not bow to intimidation from the government.
The three politicians were released later on Thursday evening after being held for a while at Kilimani police station.
