Duale: Raila's National Resistance Movement Will Be Treated Like Mungiki, Al Shabaab

Majority leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has warned that the government will treat Raila's newly formed National Resistance Movement (NRM) as a banned militia group just like Mungiki and Somalia-based al Shabaab.

The Garissa Township Member of Parliament said that the constitution does not recognize such movements, adding that the government will resist any of its operations in the country.

“Having changed from a political party to a resistance movement, NASA joined the ranks of Mungiki and al Shabaab, among others. The Constitution does recognize armed groupings and thus [it has] no place in Kenya,” said Duale as quoted by the Star.

Last Wednesday, Raila Odinga said National Super Alliance was transforming to a resistance movement to fight against government oppression.

"We are transforming the NASA coalition into a resistance movement. When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. The only government that can be established is one elected through a free, fair and credible process," Raila said.

Duale dismissed the opposition leader's tactics, saying that he can only be President through the ballot.

“For one to be President of this country, citizens must vote for you. There is no shortcut to this process,".

“Kenyans want to move on. We want to be through with the election today so we can start to build the nation. We have been held hostage for the past two months,” said the Garissa Township MP.
