Voter Turnout Estimated at 48%, Says IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati
Voter turnout countrywide in the Thursday repeat presidential election is estimated to have been at 48%, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a press briefing from the national tallying center at the Bomas of Kenya, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati also said 87% of the polling station opened on Thursday. This represented 35,564 out of 40,883 polling stations.
No voting took place in four Nyanza counties – Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya.
In the 5,319 polling stations spread across the country where no voting took place, the exercise has been re-scheduled to Saturday, October 28th.
