President Uhuru Holds Talks with IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, Says Jubilee Has No Demands

President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Monday regarding the repeat election set for Thursday.

During the meeting, the Head of State told Chebukati he was ready for the election and that his party has no conditions on the commissions other than delivering its constitutional mandate to deliver an election.

“We made it clear that we have no demands or conditions on this subject. We have made funds available for the IEBC to do its job. Now they really should deliver,” the President said in a meeting held in his Harambee house office and attended by Deputy President William Ruto.

“We only insist that elections be held on October 26, that’s the timeline set by the IEBC in terms of conditions set in the annulment of the Aug 8 elections,” the President added.

Chebukati held a similar meeting with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga in a bid to end the impasse facing the October 26th poll, which he has since withdrawn from.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the ODM leader indicated that no consensus was reached with the electoral commission and maintained that there will be no elections on Thursday.

Raila has since called on Chebukati to be "man enough" and postpone the election.
