Raila Announces Resumption of Countrywide anti-IEBC Demos
National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga has announced that anti-Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will resume on countrywide on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The announcement comes only days to the fresh presidential election set for Thursday, with Raila declaring that Nasa will not back down in its push for free, fair and credible elections. “We resume our picketing at IEBC offices countrywide this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. As a coalition we maintain that there will be no election on Thursday and the commission must pave way for meaningful reforms. Canaan beckons and there is no turning back,” Raila Odinga stressed while addressing supporters in Trans Nzoia County on Sunday evening.
The former Prime Minister further called on IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to "be man enough" and postpone this week's election and dismissed CEO Ezra Chiloba's 3-week leave as a ploy to hoodwink Kenyans, as he had already set the systems to rig the repeat poll. “We are telling Mr Chebukati to be man enough and be firm. He should say he cannot assure a free and fair election and Kenyans will stand by him,” said Mr Odinga amid cheers from hundreds of supporters who turned up at the rally.
He said the outcome if the fresh election is pre-determined and Nasa would never agree to be part of it. "We cannot go to the poll again when things have not been properly rectified. Already the rigging plot is in place. We know that votes have already been printed and have been distributed. We are not fools. We want to let Jubilee know that we are prepared to participate in a free and fair election but we are not prepared for an election which has already been rigged,” he added.
Last Wednesday, Raila suspended the demos to allow the coalition mourn supporters killed during the protests.
