President Uhuru Approves Sh12 Billion Budget for Repeat Election

The success of October 26th repeat election in now in the hands of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law the Supplementary budget that allocating the Commission Sh12 billion for the fresh poll.

The Supplementary budget also set aside Sh 25 billion that will be used to facilitate the free secondary education pledge by the government scheduled to begin in January 2018.

The Supplementary Appropriation (No. 3) Act, 2017 further set aside Kshs 6.7 billion for maize subsidy by government to ensure Kenyans get flour at affordable prices.

Other programs covered in the act includes Sh6.7 billion for the Inua Jamii cash transfer for Kenyans aged 70 years and above, Sh4 billion for security operations and Sh3.9 billion for fighting drought.

Witnessing the signing of the budget by the Head of State were Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Solicitor General Njee Muturi.

Others were Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Treasury PS Kamau Thugge.

This comes even as National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga withdrew from the Presidential race set for October 26th.
