Raila Has Not Withdrawn from the Race, IEBC Says
National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has not withdrawn from the race, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, the electoral commission said the former Prime Minister is still in the contest despite announcing he had bowed out.
IEBC says that Odinga was yet to submit a dully filled statutory Form 24A that a candidate is required to fill for him to withdraw from the presidential race.
"The Commission cannot compel a candidate to participate in an election. The law allows a candidate to withdraw his/her candidature by delivering to the Commission a duly filled Form 24A. This Form is provided for by the Elections (General) Regulations." part of the statement read.
The commission further said that Raila and Kalonzo "however have not submitted the statutory Form. "Once the Commission receives the requisite Notice from any of the candidates, it will process the same in accordance with the requisite provision of the Law,” IEBC statement futher read.
