You Won't Get a Refund, Raila Tells Kenyans Who Contributed Cash Towards His Campaign

John Wanjohi Oct 11, 2017

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has responded to Kenyans asking for a refund of their contributions towards his presidential campaign kitty for the repeat election on paybill number 991444.

Moments after he announced he had bowed out of the race for the repeat election ordered by the Supreme Court, a section of Kenyans took to the social media asking the opposition coalition to refund their contributions, since he was no longer campaigning for his bid, having withdrawn their candidature.

However, in an interview with Radio Jambo at his Karen home on Wednesday morning, Raila sought to explain to the ‘well wishers’ why they will not be getting a refund of the contributions, even after he bolted out from the presidential race.

”The money was being used as it came in. We are not a bank to keep the money. We asked Kenyans of goodwill to contribute and they did and we spent it in our activities,” he said.

The former Prime Minister withdrew his candidature on Tuesday citing refusal by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to prepare the fresh election as ordered by the Supreme Court while overturning August 8th election.
