NASA Anti-IEBC Protesters Clash with Nairobi Business Community

John Wanjohi Oct 06, 2017

Police were forced to fire teargas canisters to disperse National Super Alliance (NASA) anti-IEBC protesters who clashed with members of the Nairobi business community at the city centre on Friday.

The opposition supporters had obeyed the call by their leaders to move to the streets to protesters and force a section of IEBC officials they blame for August 8th cancelled presidential vote out of office.

Shops remained closed in the central business district, as the demonstrators engaged police in running battle.

The Nairobi Business Community, which is affiliated to Jubilee party arrived in the city, demanding that the opposition supporters move out of CBD, in a similar style they did on Monday.

However, normalcy returned later and two groups of opposition protesters led by Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris and another led by MP Simba Arati made their way to IEBC offices at Anniversary towers chanting "Chiloba must go" and "no reforms no election.

In Kisumu, protesters led by Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda staged demos in the lakeside city without much drama, but things would turn ugly at around midday when youths became unruly and broke into Tumaini Supermarket and a nearby eating joint, looting and destroying properties.
