National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential aspirant Raila Odinga has compared youthful Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino to South African anti-apartheid hero Steve Biko.

The Orange Party leader said that the newly elected MP ‘bright’ future as far as fighting for the rights of Kenyans in concerned.

Having sailed to Parliament right from campus politics, the former Students Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) chairman has made headlines, thanks to the recent series of arrests by police after making controversial statements.

Speaking in Vihiga, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga challenged Kenyan youths to take a lesson from Babu in order to transform the country for the sake of future generations.

“I have seen Babu thrive and he is taking the route of Steve Biko,” he said, adding that the brevity of the first time MP will be a motivation to many youths.

He added: “Do not just relax. This is a call and Babu has opened the way for you. Success comes through hard work and honesty.”

At the helm of student leadership, Steve Biko led the onslaught against apartheid in South Africa before his unprecedented assassination in 70s.

Babu was last week arrested following his slur directed to President Uhuru, but was freed on Sh500,000 cash bail. Moments after the release, the MP was taken in again and was charged the following day with assault. He was again released on bond.
