President Uhuru Warns Raila over Attempts to Derail Repeat Elections

You have no powers to stop an election from being held, this was President Uhuru Kenyatta's message to his nemesis Raila Odinga as he took his reelection campaigns to Western Kenya.

Addressing a campaign rally in Busia County on Friday, the head of state Uhuru lashed out at the former Prime Minister over his "no elections without reforms" threats, terming them "imaginary and nonsensical".

Uhuru warned that the state will take firm action against any attempts to block Kenyans from voting in the repeat poll set for October 26th.

"There is no way the government will allow anyone to block any voter from exercising their right to choose the leader of their choice," Uhuru said.

"The election is about and belongs to the Kenyan people and not the candidates," he said.

Deputy President William Ruto accused the opposition of plotting to plunge the country into chaos, in order to use unorthodox means to get to power.

"We know your strategy is to have demonstrations that will lead people to fight so there are no polls. Then you call for a nusu mkate government. It will not happen," Ruto told Busia rally on Friday.

Raila, who is making his fourth shot at the presidency, had threatened that there no elections will be held unless the electoral commission meets the coalitions demands dubbed "11 irreducible minimums".

The Orange Democratic Movement leader also demands that IEBC ECO Ezra Chiloba and 10 other officials vacate office accusing them of having a hand in bungling the August 8th elections.

"I want to tell Odinga that if President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, cannot stop elections in this country, who is he to tell us he will stop the October 26 elections?" Ruto said in Busia.

"It is only the Kenyan public who can stop any election," Ruto added.

"I have enough supporters to carry out protests, you can't threaten me...you will not see me in the streets but you will meet Kenyans, there is no reason of going to the elections," Raila said in a press briefing on Thursday.

"Our friends in the opposition are not interested in elections because they have no votes. They have sensed defeat and that's why they're looking for ways of getting to power through the backdoor," DP Ruto said.

"They have resorted to demonstrations to cause chaos and bloodshed, with the hope of making the country ungovernable so they can negotiate for a nusu mkata. But that won't happen." He added.
