Raila Declares Nationwide Anti-IEBC Demos Every Monday and Friday

John Wanjohi Sep 28, 2017

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga says that the coalition will be holding anti-IEBC demonstrations in all 47 counties beginning Friday.

Speaking during a press conference at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi, the former Prime Minister insisted that NASA would not accept October 26th repeat elections under the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as currently constituted.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) declared that NASA will be holding the protests every Monday and Friday at each IEBC county headquarters around the country until their 'irreducible minimums' are met.

On Tuesday, opposition supporters staged demos at the IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi that turned chaotic after a rival group allied to Jubilee held counter protests prompting police to lob teargas at the rowdy groups that attacked each other.

Similar protests were held in lakeside city of Kisumu.

A section of business owners within the city were forced to close their businesses as the NASA protesters clashed with the Jubilee supporters who had come out to counter their effort.

Raila wants IEBC officials led by Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba and eleven others vacate office before the repeat poll is conducted.

NASA also wants French Biometrics Firm Safran OT-Morpho, which provided IT services and Dubai-based firm Al Ghurair, which printed ballots for August 8th poll stopped from being part of the fresh election.
