Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Responds to NASA's Mungiki Claims

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has refuted claims by the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) that he allegedly convened a meeting with members of the outlawed Mungiki sect.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman, John Mbadi in Tuesday alleged that the controversial Jubilee MP had met with the sect members to scheme on how to disrupt protests against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by NASA supporters.

"The information we have is that Moses Kuria and the state machinery have organised the Mungiki and armed them with crude weapons to cause chaos during our peaceful Nasa demos. This is with the aim to cause violence to serve selfish interests," said Mbadi.

He added: "The police have rejected our calls to provide adequate security or to investigate these claims."

Speaking at a press briefing at Parliament on Tuesday, Kuria accused NASA of plotting to destabilize the country and dismissed claims of planning to use the outlawed group to scuttle Nasa protests.

“I am not a member or an associate of Mungiki, but I am a member of Nairobi Business Committee and we have to protect businesses,” said Kuria.

“We spent the whole of yesterday (Monday) campaigning in Nakuru before we retreated to a hotel in the evening. I have never associated with Mungiki,” said Kuria.

“NASA is setting a script to drag Kenya back to the International Criminal Court. They want to create chaos then blame some people for it,” said Kuria.
