Babu Owino Arrested over Remarks on President Uhuru

John Wanjohi Sep 25, 2017

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has been arrested by police following his Sunday remarks insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The newly elected MP has been taken to Director of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.

In a National Super Alliance in Nairobi on Sunday, the MP directed demeaning words at President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"If Muammar Gaddafi (Libya) was removed by citizens if Laurent Gbagbo (Ivory Coast) were removed by citizens if
Yahya Jammeh (Gambia) was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (you are the son of a dog)," Babu said.

The MP's sentiments sparked protests from residents of President Uhuru's Kiambu County home. The residents demanded for the arrest of the MP, blocking Thika Superhighway at Githurai area for the better part of Monday.

In a Facebook post, the MP denied insulting anyone, saying he owes no one an apology.

“I will not apologize to anyone because I called nobody’s name during my yesterday’s address. We have so many presidents in Kenya, from the President of Sonu to all presidents of students union in Kenya, President of the Supreme Court, President of Youth senate and many more,"

“However I will stick to objective politics and will never abuse anybody. Let my brothers and sisters from the kikuyu nation know that I did not abuse their president. One kenya one nation… God bless Kenya,” he wrote.
