President Uhuru's 'Tormentors' Arrested after Burying His Effigy

Dozens of individuals linked to Thursday's protests in Keroka town in Nyamira County in which President Uhuru Kenyatta’s effigy was buried have been arrested and are being held by police.

The suspects are detained at Keroka police station waiting to be arraigned in Court on Monday following an advice by local principal magistrate. Nyamira County Police Commander Titus Karuri confirmed the arrests, but declined to give more details on the same.

The protesters took streets in solidarity with Chief Justice David Maraga, who has become a victim of periodical attacks from the president and a number of Jubilee MPs.

Maraga, 66, and three other Supreme Court judges annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8th reelection on grounds that IEBC did not hold elections within the dictates of the constitution.

Civil groups and opposition leaders drawn from Nyamira, the home county of Maraga issued a joint presser where they condemned attacks on the CJ.

On Thursday, Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu filed a petition with the Judicial Service Commission seeking removal of Maraga from office, a move that spark fury from different quarters. Wambugu has since withdrawn the ouster bid after President Uhuru prevailed upon him to drop it.
