President Uhuru Leads 5,000 Mt. Kenya Leaders in Making the "Sagana Declaration"

President Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed that the repeat presidential election will be held as scheduled and attempts to derail it will be resisted.

Speaking when he met leaders from the greater Mount Kenya region as Sagana State Lodge, Uhuru led the leaders in making what they termed as the 'Sagana Declaration", where they demanded that the electoral commission must deliver the elections within the stipulated 60 days.

The head of state maintained that they were ready for the repeat presidential elections and would not accept any date another date, other than 17th October as the opposition seems to suggest.

"We don't have a quarrel with anyone. We want the will of the people to prevail and that is on the ballot. We want that within 60 days," he said.

" Mkipita hapo na mkianza kutupea stori mjue mmepita line na hiyo
hatutakubali.... (If you [IEBC] delay past that date and give excuses we shall not accept)" Uhuru proclaimed.

He then proceeded to lead the more than 5,000 leaders from 10 counties to make the declaration.

" Mnakubaliana na mimi tutoe hiyo declaration ya hapa Sagana (Do you all agree with me we make a declaration here in Sagana?)

“It is the will of the people that shall prevail. That is our declaration from Sagana,” he affirmed as the leaders raised their hands in agreement.

President Kenyatta said Nasa was attempting to derail the election "but their efforts would be thwarted by the Jubilee Party, as well as all Kenyans of goodwill who believe in the rule of law".

“We are the majority, but do not mistake the silence of the majority for weakness. The independent body (IEBC) should deliver an election. We will accept the verdict of the people,” Uhuru stated.

The Head of State reiterated that he won the August 8th poll but was robbed by the Supreme Court, which declared the election invalid, null and void.

“We looked for votes and we won, but the victory was stolen from us. This time we will win with more votes,” he stated.

He calles on the opposition to respect the independence of the IEBC so that it can deliver the fresh election.
