President Uhuru Kenyatta has gifted Kenya's youngest MP, John Paul Mwirigi, with a brand new Toyota Prado.

The Head of State promised the newly elected 23-year-old Igembe South MP a vehicle that he will use to travel around.

In his campaigns, Mwirigi traversed the constituency on foot since he did not have a car. He also relied on well-wishers to finance his campaigns as well as his food. The youthful MP thanked President Uhuru for the gift, saying it would enable him serve his constituents better.

Mwirigi recently hit headlines when he rode on a public service bus from Meru to Nairobi to attend orientation at the parliament since he did not own a car. He also driven to State House by Tharaka MP George Murugara for a Jubilee party parliamentary group meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto, and after the meeting, Mwirigi allegedly walked on foot looking for a friend who had volunteered to drive him around until he purchases his own car.

The MP, who is still an undergraduate student at Mount Kenya University, garnered 76 per cent of the votes cast in his constituency. Mwirigi clinched the Igembe South parliamentary seat on an independent ticket after garnering 19,980 votes against Jubilee's Rufus Miriti's 16,615 votes. He succeeds Mithika Linturi, who is now the Meru senator. Others in the race were, Mzalendo Mwenda (PNU), Mutuma Kubai of Maendeleo Chap Chap and Raphael Murigi of the Democratic Party.

"Delivered a car promise to young Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi at State Lodge, Sagana," President Uhuru wrote on his Facebook page.
