Billionaire Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi Claims His Life is in Danger

Kenya billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has asked the government to provide him with security, saying his life is in danger.

The tycoon has wrote to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet claiming that unknown individuals have been trailing by him day and night.

Wanjigi wants police officers assigned to guard him at his own cost.

In the letter, he claims that on September 8th, a senior State House official personally visited him at home to warn him of an imminent threat to his life. He reported the matter at Gigiri Police Station on September 10th under OB number 14/10/9/2.

“This is therefore to bring to the attention of your good office the above subject matter for your urgent intervention and further necessary action by way of providing our client with adequate police security at his cost before any harm is visited on him,” Wanjigi said in the letter through his lawyer Elizabeth Karoki.

The businessman is said to be the key financier of opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential campaigns and, he believes, this could be part of the reason why someone is after his life.

Wanjigi in the letter says the Constitution guarantees him the right to make political choices, which include the right to campaign for a political party , and that these rights must be protected.

Prior to the August 8th elections, several newspaper articles were published about him, prompting sharp reactions from some politicians and according to Wanjigi, this was part of a larger scheme to harm him.

Police at Gigiri said investigations on the matter are ongoing.

“We are aware and have embarked on the probe into the report he made. About his demands for more officers, we know he has asked the Inspector General, which I think is being addressed,” a senior officer who asked not to be named told the Standard.
