Raila Distances Himself from Ndii's Secession Calls

NASA leader Raila Odinga has distanced himself from secession advocacy calls by a section of National Super Alliance leaders.

NASA Chief Strategist David Ndii, a man mandated to advise NASA on economic issues last month sparked a debate in which he called for split of Kenya into two.

Speaking in an interview with KTN News on Tuesday night, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, however, distanced himself from the debate adding that it was Ndii's constitutional right to express his thoughts freely.

“I have not called for secession and that is my stand. If he [Ndii] is calling for that, then he has a right to do so because we are living in a democratic nation,” he said.

He added:”I am of the opinion that project Kenya will still work if we are dedicated to do so. We are only advocating for transparency in running of government businesses.”

A defiant Ndii called for separation of the country, in a petition dubbed "petition for Self Determination", which argues that post colonial governments have discriminated several parts of the country for years and time had come to end the abusive marriage by splitting the country into two.

“We the people of Western Kenya (Luo, Luhya, Tesos, Kisii, Kuria), Coastal Kenya (Swahilis, Mijikendas, Pokomos, Giriamas, Taitas, Tavetas,) North West Kenya (Turkana, Pokot)…intends to file a communication/complaint with the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights in Banjul…to grant us our human rights of self-determination of forming our own state…”part of Ndii's petition reads.
