Ardent Uhuru Supporter Who Spent Sh13 Million to Campaign for Him Collapsed after Supreme Court Ruling

A Nyeri-based businessman who hit headlines after spending more than Sh13 million from his own pocket to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in the run to August 8th general elections says he will not relent until the incumbent wins the fresh election ordered by the Supreme Court.

Ephantus Thuku is said to have collapsed in his car while driving to Mombasa minutes after thr Supreme Court invalidated the presidential election in which Uhuru had been declared the winner. Thuku was treated for high blood pressure and discharged.

Popularly referred to as Adonai, the businessman is said to have been instrumental in Uhuru’s campaigns in the Mount Kenya region.

Addressing the media at the Pandya Hospital, Thuku said he will still mobilise resources to campaign for the President in the election to be held within 60 days.

Thuku said he was travelling to Mombasa on a business mission and fainted immediately after the news that Uhuru's win had been overturned reached him.

“After the Supreme Court ruling, I suffered shock and was hospitalised. We did not expect the court to pull such a surprise,” he said.

Martin Mbae Kithinji, a nurse at the hospital said that the businessman was booked on Friday after suffering shock.

“We received him on Friday when he was unconscious. His blood pressure was high but we managed to stabilise it,” said Mbae.

“This is the time Kenyans need to unite and pray for a peaceful nation.
We are optimistic that Jubilee will still triumph,” Thuku said.

The Supreme Court last Friday overturned the result of last month’s presidential election, citing irregularities and illegalities.

Thuku has never met the President even after dedicating his resources and time campaigning for him.
