24 Envoys Back IEBC to Conduct Repeat Presidential Election

Hours after the Supreme Court nullified the reelection of President Uhuru Friday, foreign envoys reached out to the Kenyans in a joint statement, saluting them for fully respecting the rule of law.

24 envoys led by US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec have thrown their weight behind the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), saying that it is capable of conducting a repeat presidential in the stipulated 60-days ordered by the court.

“Kenya’s electoral institutions now must begin preparing for a new presidential poll later this year and we urge everyone to work to make it free, fair, credible and peaceful,".

“We have trust in the ability of Kenya and its citizens to do so and we will continue to support Kenya’s institutions in this important work,” they said.

The envoys welcomed the Supreme Court decision and lauded Kenyans for the patience and confidence the showed during the legal process.

“ The Kenyan people showed patience and confidence as the legal case ran its course, its an historic time and we stand with all Kenyans as they support and reaffirm their democracy” they added.

Envoys from UK, Germany, European Union, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, France, Italy, Canada, Greece, Slovakia, Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, Czech Republic, Ireland, Sweden, Romania, Belgium, Finland, Poland, Austria, Spain were present during the joint presser.

National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga has already intimated that he has no faith with the current electoral commission to conduct a fresh poll.

Third-way Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot echoed Raila's sentiments and advised the United Nations be allowed to carry out a fresh elections.
