John Wanjohi Sep 01, 2017

Babu Owino, the former Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) Chairman and newly elected Embakasi East Member of Parliament, says that he was a close friend of late Libya President Muammar Gaddafi.

Babu said that Gaddafi used to finance his life and political activities, adding that he was left ‘financial orphan’ when the former Libyan President was captured and killed.

The controversial MP was responding to questions about the source of his wealth, which has dominated public debates for long.

“Long ago, Libya’s late president, Muammar Gadaffi used to be my best friend, and he used to finance me.”

He further said that, when Gaddafi passed on, he was left broke and had to look for newer sources of money.

“When I was left a financial orphan, I decided to look for other international friends.”
So just who are these benevolent ‘international friends’?

“I would not disclose them, because when I reveal their identity, they are killed – just like what they did to Gaddafi,” said Babu Owino.

Babu also claimed he was well-networked, and that he has connections with the international community he has connections, who funded his MP bid.

“I have serious international connections; I can get money from anywhere to finance me and my political bid.”

He maintained that he will eventually become the president of Kenya.

“I will run for president in 2027. In 2022 I want to go for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat ,” he said
