John Wanjohi Jul 29, 2017

An unknown number of gunmen on Saturday stormed Deputy President William Ruto's home in Sugoi in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county, shooting and seriously injuring a GSU officer.

The gunmen stole the officer's firearm during the attack that occurred shortly after Ruto left for a campaign rally in Kitale with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“There are armed people who staged the attack and have shot the GSU officer and stolen his gun,” a security official, who declined to be mentioned told Capital FM News.

Deputy President William Ruto's spokesman David Mugonyi refused to comment on the matter when contacted. Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

“The incident indeed happened and security has been beefed up at the home,” a senior police source told Capital FM News,

“Security has been beefed up at the home but no arrest has been made.” he added.

Ruto is the second most guarded government official in the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his home is usually under 24-hour surveillance by the elite Recce Squad of the GSU.
