President Uhuru, Moi Mourn 'Total Man' Nicholas Biwott

President Uhuru Kenyatta and retired President Daniel Arap Moi have led the nation in mourning former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott, popularly knows as ‘Total Man’. President Uhuru described him as a generous man who was fully devoted to the education of young Kenyans, while Moi said he has lost a longtime friend.

The head of state said the veteran politician was dedicated to uplifting the community and the country at large. Uhuru in a statement noted that it was difficult to find the words to describe Biwott's death.

"From humble beginnings in Elgeyo Marakwet, he worked successively in the Ministry of Agriculture, Treasury, and in the Ministry of Home Affairs," Uhuru said.

"He funded many scholarships, and never ceased to insist that young men and women take every opportunity to improve themselves... Many of us have cause to be thankful for this aspect of his character. He never forgot where he came from," Uhuru said in his condolence message.

"These were the qualities that propelled his rise through the ranks of government. They were balanced by his private warmth, wit, attention to detail, and love of family." Uhuru added.

On his side, retired President Daniel Arap Moi who was great friend with Biwott said he was sad to lose a friend he knew since 1950s.

"He initiated community projects to alleviate the suffering of the Keiyo people whom he represented for years," Moi said. "We pray to God to give the family of the late courage to bear the loss of their loved one," he added.
