Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Announces 2022 Presidential Bid
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has joined the crowded list of those eyeing the Presidency in the 2022 general elections. Mutua on Thursday declared that he will be in the ballot for the country's top seat come 2022 while spelling out an ambitious development plan, that according to him, will transit Machakos County from a third world to a first world economy, urging Machakos residents to rally behind him as he defends his seat.
Mutua launched his 2017-2022 manifesto at the Machakos University Hotel, promising to finish all projects he kick started during his first term in the next two years.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader outlined infrastructure, agriculture, health care, Small Microenterprise development and education as key pillars of his development agenda and exuded confidence that he will be retain in the upcoming elections.
The former government spokesman also promised to with immediate effect implement the ambitious New Machakos City plan, which stalled after a court petition filed by Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama in 2013.
"We are very excited because the High Court recently dismissed the case against the establishment of the new Machakos City, and soon we will be laying its foundation," Mutua said.
"We have already held adequate consultations with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority who have surveyed the proposed site and plans are in the pipeline to kick-start development of the facility," he said.
Deputy President William Ruto, NASA presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, KANU leader Gideon Moi and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo are among politicians who have declared interest in the presidency in 2022 polls.
