NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga has pledged that his government will be paying Sh3,500 to all Kenyans above 70 years of age if he wins in the August 8 general election.

Speaking during the launch of the coalition’s campaign at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday, the Orange Democratic Movement party leader said that NASA will strive to empower all village elders and would not do away with them.

The NASA flag bearer said that despite the Jubilee administration setting aside funds for the elderly, the money was not benefiting them as it was going to the pockets of underserved individuals. He said the elderly are suffering under the Jubilee government.

In his speech, the former Prime Minister called on NASA supporters to turn out in large numbers during election day, adding that the coalition will provide means to ensure that everyone votes. Patients admitted in hospitals will be provided with transport means to enable them vote, he added.

Raila further urged all residents to verify their voter registration details with the IEBC.

The rally in Kakamega was the official start of the opposition’s campaigns and at the same time unveiled the Western Region Investment Conference that stipulates several programs geared towards economically empowering the counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga and Busia as well as Trans Nzoia.

The event was attended by the five NASA principals including Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.

The coalition will on Sunday hold another campaign rally at Kapsabet, Nandi County with Machakos hosting NASA on Monday.
