John Wanjohi May 31, 2017

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned that he will not hesitate to have those found guilty of economic sabotage put on the hangman's noose. Speaking during the launch of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Mombasa on Wednesday morning, the head of state said that the SGR is not his property or his deputy's but it belongs to all 45 million Kenyans, warning those who will be found vandalizing the project.

"The SGR does not belong to Uhuru or Ruto but to all the 45 million people of Kenya who have paid for the construction of the railway. Let me make it very clear here now, anybody who will be found guilty of sabotaging the economy, which is a capital offence, I as the President of Kenya won't hesitate to sign for that person to be hanged," said Uhuru amid cheers from the public.

The head of state’s warning comes just days following reports of vandalism of the SGR at Mariakani.

Uhuru called on Kenyans to engage in constructive criticism of the government adding that he was committed to ensure infrastructural development in the country to achieve long term goals.

He announced a reduction of the travel prices using the new Standard Gauge Railway train from an earlier proposed Sh 900 from Mombasa to Nairobi, to Sh 700 for the distance.
