Waiguru's Bid for Kirinyaga Governor Hangs in the Balance as She faces Ban

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru’s bid for Kirinyaga governor hangs in the balance after Members of the Parliament demanded that implementation of the report on the National Youth Service (NYS), which recommended that she be barred from holding public office.

The Public Accounts Committee while debating the report on Wednesday insisted that those mentioned be held accountable.

“This matter made some of us to make enemies. The saga was a well-designed, well-orchestrated, and planned. From the probe we discovered that government funds are not well utilized. Our efforts should not go down the drain,” said PAC vice-chairman Jackson Rop (Kipkelion West).

The committee in March recommended that Waiguru, who recently clinched the Jubilee party ticket to contest for Kirinyaga governor be prevented from holding any public office having been at the center of the NYS scandal where millions of money was lost.

“The NYS scandal will remain the largest in the Jubilee administration. It was shocking in nature, well-crafted, clearly thought through, and involved sophisticated professionals. The only way you can appreciate the efforts we made as a committee is to adopt the report,” Abdikadir Aden of Mbalambala told MPs.

Johana Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr) and Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) slammed the Jubilee Part for awarding the former Cabinet Secretary the Jubilee ticket and others who were adversely mentioned in the report such as Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen whose law firm received Sh15 million from a company under investigation over the scandal.
