Kabogo, Two Other Governors Join Mt. Kenya Independent Candidates Consortium

Independent candidates hailing from the extended Mount Kenya region are planning a national delegates conference next week that will endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid ahead of the August 8 polls.

The Association of Independent Candidates chairman George Nyanja, who is a former Limuru MP and an aspirant for Kiambu Senate seat, revealed that the consortium of independent contestants of different elective posts will invite President Uhuru to the conference that will be held in Nairobi next week.

In a closed-door meeting attended by Governors William Kabogo (Kiambu), Kinuthia Mbugua (Nakuru) and Joseph Ndathi (Kirinyaga), Ex-Nacada chairman John Mututho - who lost Nakuru governor primaries, Thuo Mathenge from Nyeri and former PS Thuita Mwangi, the consortium arrived at the decision as they seek to be elected as independent candidates.

"We are in full support of our President. We want to invite him for our delegate’s conference and endorse his reelection," he said in in Kiambu.

Nyanja further revealed that the association was reaching out to candidates in other regions, who support President Kenyatta’s reelection bid, to attend the conference. "We are about six counties today but we want to reach out to all of those who are supporting President Kenyatta so that we endorse him altogether," he said.

Mututho, a Nakuru county governor aspirant said the real leaders will be elected during the August 8 general elections adding that there were serious elections malpractices during the Jubilee Party primaries.

"What we have are photocopies of aspirants. They rigged the primaries with double voting and photocopying of ballot papers which had been filled." He said.
