President Kenyatta Mourns Former Finance Minister David Mwiraria, Calls Him a Source of Inspiration for Many

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the late former Finance Minister David Mwiraria, who passed away from cancer at Karen Hospital in Nairobi on Thursday.

The president hailed the late David Mwiraria’s dedication and performance in his many years of service to the nation, having served as both a Cabinet Minister and an MP, and before then as a long-term civil servant.

“His outstanding service as a Cabinet Minister and his sterling performance as a Member of Parliament will remain a source of inspiration and motivation to many aspiring leaders,” President Kenyatta said.

He added that the late Mwiraria was generous, cheerful and a person of influence whose guidance and influence will be missed by many.

David Mwiraria, an economist by profession, served as the first Finance Minister in retired President Mwai Kibaki’s administration, holding the powerful docket from 2003 to 2006. He resigned from the position after allegations of involvement in the Anglo Leasing scandal. He also served as Member of Parliament for North Imenti from 1992 to 2007. He lost his re-election bid in 2007.

He succumbed to Stage Four cancer on Thursday at the age of 79.
